Driving Mode

Every time I return to my Ateca it reverts to "D" (normal) mode even if the selector has been left in, and still displays, "E" or "S". Anyone else finding this? Feels like a software issue.

^ There is lot of discussion about this in the forums. Engine and gearbox loose the mode setting when powered off, other bits and pieces don't. That's the case with the newer cars, older ones (like mine) retain the mode perfectly.

Mine does that too and it's so frustrating. I checked the manual and it actually states exactly that, that it won't retain the driving mode. Probably my only bugbear since owning the car, definitely feels like a glitch to me.

Maybe its a DSG thing. I have a manual gearbox and mine comes on to what ever it was on when i turned it off. Mine is only 2 months old.
What does the drivemode do with manual transmission?
Not sure what you mean? I have normal, eco, sport and individual modes. Whatever mode mine is set to when i turn the car off ,stays on that setting when i turn it back on.

Yes it does, but on some models, depending on age, the actual mode changes are not active. For example, if you use custom mode and select sport mode for DSG, when you start up, it stays in custom mode but the DSG reverts to normal drive mode. You can see that from the MFD display.

Don't just assume that just because the drive select mode dial says you in one mode that it actually does what you expect.

The driving modes are more to do with the way the steering feels, how the gas pedal reacts when pushed, and how much the climate control use motor energy. in the case of offroad and snow modes it also affects the traction controls and abs. The DSG modes are separate from the drive modes.

Except coasting, which only works on ECO drive mode. There is no other way to switch it on, than set the drive mode to ECO. And in older Atecas, no other way to turn off except set the drive mode to some other setting. In newer ones, the other option is to shut down the engine and start again, and the coasting is gone.

Ok Tet70. Good to know. Never used eco in my Leon FR and probably never will in my Ateca FR. But that's good to point out to people who do use Eco.

I queried this problem with Seak U K and got the following reply.

Further to your enquiry regarding the Eco mode of your SEAT Ateca.

Having discussed your query regarding the Eco mode of your vehicle with our Technical Support Team. They advise that the Eco Mode needs to be reset every time you restart the engine and this is normal.

I hope the above information proves helpful. If you have any other questions, please contact me via the details below.

Thank you for contacting SEAT UK.

My Ateca is one of the first in Ireland. It's DSG and never retain mode on display.... but I noticed that it looks like the mode is kept (eco or sport) even if it displays D.

In other words: when I drive on Sport, switch off, switch on - knob shows Sport, corner shows D but I feel the characteristic is sport...ish (not fully sport but somewhat). It changes gears at higher revs.

So to me - it looks like display (known) issue, but I actually got a habit that if I want certain mode - I will always switch - regardless what was before.

And BTW I noticed recently even on Drive (without or with mode switch) the car is more snappy than before. Other bits like steering is the same...

Our DSG never stays in sport on turning off, custom is configured as full sport too and the gearbox always resets to normal on restart
