Having moved on from a new car looking for a used one
I would be grateful for opinions and experiences of having one fitted and any issues re the electrics / car functions.

I have rently bought a new Ateca and didn't want to wait 18 weeks for a factory order. I had the dealer arrange a removeable Tow Trust swan neck towbar to be fitted by Pro Towbar in Stoke on Trent (https://www.protowbar.co.uk/).
They fitted a dedicated wiring kit and coded the electrics. No issues encountered. Reverse sensors are disengaged when a trailer is plugged in etc. I'm happy with the job they have done. Cost me £479. Not sure if this was a special trade price though as I paid through the dealer.

I just had a Witter detachable swan neck towbar fitted today with dedicated 7 pin electrics including the coding.
I was worried that the virtual pedal wouldn't work but it's fine when the swan neck isn't attached. Just need to drag a foot on either side of the swan neck mount.

Haven't had a chance to test the recoding of the electrics when the bike carrier is fitted but don't expect there to be any issues.

£290 for the towbar and electrics sourced independently and £180 for a Witter authorised centre to fit.

That's sounds like just what I require. I've checked witters webpage and it says no bumper cut. Is this correct? Plus is anything visible when the towbar is removed?

Correct, no bumper cut required.

Nothing really visible unless you bend down to look at the back where you can just see the mounting point.. I can take a picture once it stops raining :D

Would also like to know where you sourced for that price?!

Hi
When you have done this if you have the time while fitting could you take photos and post please? As a real shortage of diy guides

Hate to say 'me too' but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, me too......

Still to get the electric kit though, what one did you get.
Fitted a towbar to my wife's Touran and that included the 'magic' control box, it all worked first time. The reversing senser sometimes picks up the towbar but it's usually because someone has knocked the plastic cap askew, now the Touran is going in favour of a VW T-Cross I took the decision to fit a removable towbar to my ATECA.

Wanting to fit a towbar on my recently acquired 17 plate ATECA EXCELLENCE 190 DSG
Is a fixed swan neck picked up by the reversing sensors resulting in a false signal ?
If so then a detachable would seem the answer.
On my previous car, a 59 plate Skoda Yeti , I fitted a Witter detachable in case it messed with the reversing sensors... it didn't so I left it on with no problems.
I did remove it once but it was heavy and akward to re- attach so would rather not go to the expense of a detachable unless I have to.

Thanks in anticipation of owners experience with this issue, tow bar fitters and Witter Technical have not been able to offer any help or guidance!
