Hi to all on the forum.

Hopefully due to take delivery of my Ateca mid/end March (not yet received official confirmation).
I think this question maybe a little premature but I understand the engine oil for an Ateca 1.4SE DSG with a fixed service regime, every 12 months, maximum 10,000 miles, is 502.00/504.00 VW. I have found several oils meeting 502.00/505.00 VW 5W/40, and 5W/30.
Would 502.00/505.00 VW 5W/40 be OK to be used for topping up before it's first annual service.

(With my current Skoda Octavia I used 5W/30 504.00/507.00 VW originally then the Skoda dealer informed me that 5W/40 was the recommended engine oil)

Thanks in advance for any comments received.

Old father john, below is page 50 of the manual which you may have see, latest release of the manual, November 2016. How VW oils generally work with the 12 month and long service ones is that they use a more specified oil for the long service, that's VW 504 00 for your petrol and VW 502 00 for 12 month or 10,000 miles, but you can put the over specified one if you wish on a 12 month / 10,000 mile cycle which is why it shows VW 504 00 on that line as well. Similar applied to diesels before the DPF complicated matters.

So a Google on VW 502.00 reveals you should be fine with SAE 5W/40
