Heated Windscreen

Hi - wondering if anyone could help me.

we have a 2019 1.5 Tsi Ateca experience lux - so top of the range.

it is fitted with a heated windscreen, one of the types with wires running through it which you see when you focus your eyesight onto the windscreen.

It didn’t seem to work last winter and I spent some time looking for how to turn it on - there is no physical button on the dashboard and no touch screen option to turn it on when you bring up the heater controls on the infotainment panel.

I am really stuck with this - can’t see any way to turn it on or off, or check whether it is working!

Any help would be greatly appreciated (local SEAT dealers were not greatly helpful when I raised it when in for service).
Kind regards

Andy

So those are all the heater related controls. Nothing I can see that relates to setting the heated windscreen option so it comes on with the front screen demist function. It’s just weird, since the wires are definitely there physically in the screen and I though all lux spec models would have that feature

But the physical heated windscreen with wires is there…no-one would install such windscreen (they are reportedly massively more expensive) without having that function?

and it was on all the lux level models?

this is what i just can’t understand

Could you try updating your infotainment system? When I picked my car up recently it seems it had never been updated!

Also I wonder if it's as simple as it not being selected as an option within the model/coding choices within the ECU. You can usually code things like this on and off to say one particular model has this feature and another doesn't and therefore not to show the option on the customer facing menu screens. Maybe yours isn't coded in but should have been?

You could try asking the dealer or if you have someone local with VW diagnostics they may be able to look and turn it on for you if that is the issue?

Cheers

Morning - thanks for the help. I would have no idea how to update the infotainment - is that a dealer thing? but I do know it had the central locking update when in for a service earlier in the year at SEAT (I have the all in one plan).

Press the top section of the left hand circular control with 'Max' on it, it starts the screen blower on high and the heated screen. Simples!

Not exactly.

It's supposed to work automatically and the automatic element is when it detects high levels of moisture.

I have never seen mine turn on automatically!

Maybe it was changed to include a button like on mine at some point which can probably be added with coding

I haven't checked if I have this myself yet either! Not noticed the thin wires. Had this in my old focus and was brilliant. Essential in a diesel that take a long time to warm up. A feature I forgot to check on but would be chuffed if I did have it..... And.... No it doesn't have it. :poop::(

Also some strange looks when passers by see me with my face pressed against an icy windscreen trying to look for the tiny wires!

We’ll blow me down! 😂. I may have seen this screen when I bought the car and did lots of exploring but I don’t suppose I knew it meant electrically heated. I didn’t stick my eyeball on the screen but from a foot away couldn’t see filaments.

Saw this other screen as well which I also don’t recall.

Great that the info has helped and I appreciate those who have tried to help me.
I have reached out to SEAT UK and will see what they say. Will report back.

I have a 2022 Ateca exp lux, I turn the heated screen on pressing “setup” knob on the dash in front of gear lever, then heated screen button on screen, surprisingly effective for something you can’t see (I only found out in winter 2024) my cars garaged so didn’t get the opportunity too much to see), I also never thought it worked. Temp settings tab top right on set up screen too
