There have been issues with the Silicate bag in the header tank leaking silicate into the cooling system. The particles released then blocks up various waterways including heater matrix. Sadly, it's not a cheap fix if this is the issue. I really don't know why they fit these things. I removed mine as soon as I got the car - it's not just a VAG issue as other makes use them too.

Likliest problem is with one of the actuators that operate the flaps to bleand the hot and cold air to achieve the desired temperature. If that's it then diagnostics should show the fault. Find a local VAG specilaist, who will charge you much less for the scan, and who's labour rate will be half a franchised dealer.

Thank you for all of your replies. I have now also removed my silicate bag, no holes and crystals all still in there. I've also noticed that the water coolant is brown not the normal orange i've seen online. (The owner manual says it should be purple). I'm not losing water and had no other warnings, however, brown water in tank does not seem to be a good thing. Got it booked for a flush and refill next Thursday.

just had mine checked, the whole water system was filthy, full of gunge, cleaned out and refilled and worked for about 20 minutes, then stopped working again on the drivers side. Price for a new matrix VW £215.00 plus new water bottle £25.00, 3 hours Labour £180.00 or can fit none VW matrix for £60.00. No silicon bag found on my car. Looking to have new matrix fitted but none VW plus new bottle and Labour = £265.00.

Hi,

So I explained to SEAT my issues as stated above. They told me that the silcate bag, even though its had not leaked crystals it has caused the water to turn brown and Gungey.

@Tony123 Did you take yours to an actual SEAT/VW garage?
The SEAT garage quoting me £800 plus to do what you had...

Hi
I took mine to a VAG specialist mechanic, ie trained in VW’s nor a main dealer. If you look around locally there will be one by you. Genuine VW matrix £215.00 plus water bottle £25.00 plus Labour at £60.00 a hour x3 hours (£180.00) = £420 with all VW parts.
or
None VW Matrix £60.00 plus £180.00 Labour plus VW water bottle £25.00 total £265.00.
Mechanic informed me the VW matrix is more likely to block due to the small tubes but VW
2 year warranty. I was charged £60.00 to put on computer and flush system through but
