The knife is a bit OTT to open it - something wide and blunt, twist it and the cover just pops open. If you've got reasonably small fingers you can get those in it pulls apart pretty easily, although maybe ours was easier as it's been done a few times.

The existing battery does really fly out when you release it from under the nib holding it - so prepare to catch it! Apart from anything else you don't want a child / dog / cat etc to find it.

I used one end of this, which I just happened to have on my desk (hic ) - although something with a more square end would be even better.

The side where the actual metal key part comes out? My key has the metal key part that completely comes out as a separate piece.

Can you post up a picture of your key fob?

Not seen that sort of key before. It should say in your handbook, but it looks like this one:

looks a bit more awkward to get the cover off than on the flip-key fobs.
