More Satnav Map Update Problems

OK so, with my Ateca's second service due soon, I thought I'd take the plunge and update the maps. Downloaded successfully, followed the instructions, backed up the car SD card, deleted the only folder there (maps), copied the newly downloaded folder (maps) onto the SD card, bunged it back in the Ateca and... "No Map Data Found" (or some such).

Panic.

Put the original folder back on the SD card, rebooted the entertainment/satnav system, put the SD card back in its slot and held my breath. Satnav recognised the old maps. Phew! So what did I do wrong? Thinking back, should I have rebooted the system before putting the SD card with the new maps in? Only occurred to me later, but I'm wary of going through the trauma again. Any advice? I may be strange but I'm happy with the satnav and don't want to be without it, though I'd like up to date maps.

You have to use the original card as Paul stated, it is "linked" to your vehicle

Thanks Bedlam Sorry to be a pain
So I replace the maps folder on my original SD Card with the map folder I have already downloaded I then copy the file MAPS/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS from my original SD Card backup and we're good to go

thanks Paul.Cambs That makes sense I was trying to avoid using the original card as when I compare the update files to those on the original it is half the size with some files on the original not contained in the update. The majority appear to be country specific and may or may not be important, hence my reluctance to use the original SD even though I have it backed up. Probably going to have to bite the bullet.
Yes, I noticed the map file is considerably smaller. Anyone had any issues with it?

One issue seems to be that the link I posted only appears to include the following country's
Andorra, Belgium, Gibraltar, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom
This is a departure from the norm.
I am experimenting with other download files to try to include France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and more
Will report back

Hi Bedlam,
I followed your instructions (thank you!) and now have the 1115 maps available to me.
I tried a route from home to Calais and it was able to create the route, are you sure that France is not included in the 1115 download?

Other map bundles are here (they are generic VAG group files and work fine on SEAT and Skoda without changing brand logos etc.) :-

https://webspecial.volkswagen.de/vwinfotainment/int/en/index/downloads/maps-download#/

Select Tiguan, 2017, Discover Media (NOT Pro) for SEAT MIB2 Standard maps.

You'll find the old Bundle 1 (many countries) and all of the the new bundles with contents as specified (bundle dates are reverse/US format!)

I can confirm that Europe Bundle 5 (which also appears to be Version 1120) works in a 2017 Ateca and a 2018 Leon, using the update methods widely discussed....

Are others seeing "dual" speed limits i.e. 60 and 50 on their maps?

Yes - seeing this on our Ateca too - and on the Leon with traffic sign recognition, it shows only a single limit but these don't match the roads either (e.g. 60mph on dual carriageways).....

I can only assume someone at VAG has messed up and that the "dual" display refers to towing and non towing limits and/or in some countries raining or not raining limits.
I have tried all 3 variants that include UK, they all do it

Just been out for a short run on a Motorway (A1M) and no speed limit sign displayed at all

On another matter; do the units receive software updates like new features or design changes?
No, it is just the Map data

You need to do everything you did earlier then copy from your backup this file
MAPS/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS to your SD card.
You might want to backup your updated card to a new file too, I keep a copy of every update (just in case)
BTW the maps are due another update quite soon, what version are you updating to?
1030 is the current version.
Thanks for this tip Bedlam. Had just updated my sat nav from 0915 to 1115 which the car didn't recognise when I put the SD card back, copied the OVERALL.NDS file from my 0915 backup and now it works!

Odd bug this one, and much appreciated that you've solved this and shared it.

Didn't previously have any issues when upgrading from 0730 to 0915 so must be a recent update issue.

Hi,

I hit the same problem with updating from 1030 to 1115 and didn't manage to work around it. :( I tried copying OVERALL.NDS from my 1030 install and from my original install but none of that worked. Finally after few hours of time wasting I managed to reinstate my 1030 version. I wonder if something changed in the install procedure just to make our life harder? Has anybody else managed to successfully upgrade to 1115?

Had no problem upgrading from 1030 to 1115 last week. Just took the original NDS file from my original 0730 maps and worked first time. In fact usually it takes a while when launching a new map whilst the unit recognises the new file, but this time just came straight up with the map. I was a bit concerned it mightened have worked so checked the map file and it confirmed it was 1115.

PS I used the recent newer Euro Bundle 1 update from the VW site which includes most of Europe.

Thanks for confirming. I'll have another go. I was using same maps from VW site, link posed on the forum her. I might be doing something wrong, no reason not to work just for me.

I've also successfully updated 2 days ago to the new bundle 1 version 1115. just copied the old OVERALL.NDS

Hi,
I have a Seat Arona with maps version 0820:
Hardware: H41
Software: 0462
0820
ECE1 2017/18
SHIELD: 2016-44 (build 309)

I read in this forum that I can use the updated map from Seat (I downloaded "1115_MP181-1266.xEUR_DL1.zip"), but I can also download the map from volkswagen, which is more updated ("DiscoverMedia2_EU_DL2_1120_V10.7z"), unzip it in my original SD card and then copy back in the SD card the original file "OVERALL.NDS" previously backed up.

Can you please confirm these procedures, and that I can go with the more updated map from volkswagen?

Also, there is no way to use another SD card, I must use the original one right?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Thanks to all the posts on this thread, was putting off updating the maps. Had previously downloaded it from Seat site. I backed up the map data from the card, deleted the map data files on the card and then copied the new map data files on to the card and hey presto it worked. Much to my surprise.
