Anyone going to go for a Pre Order during May? I've talked to a couple of dealers and they confirmed that the order book would be open in May and a car with a customer spec can be secured for a deposit of £500. I asked if this deposit would be returnable if, following a test drive in August, the car proved not suitable to you. I was told that it would be a none returnable deposit. This does not quite make sense to me if the your car had not started being manufactured. Any thoughts?

I think this is unusual. The deposit at this stage would be with the dealer I think and not Seat. In all other cases I've seen this happen on new car launches the deposit is fully refundable. Might be worth giving another dealer or two a phone call to ask the question?
I will definitely go and see what opening pcp offers they have on it from the 1st of May. I will also test drive the Leon to give me some sort of idea. May place an order on blind faith though, early reviews have been excellent. If the upcoming first edition is sub 22k and has extra kit thrown in for "free" then I may even be tempted by that (as long as the colour isn't outrageous).

All a bit in the air as yet but May is not far off now.

We shall see. Going off the choices available on the "as decided by you" section on the website for the first edition, the colour options are white, metallic grey or the orange seen in most promo shots. Combinations of spec choice also include keyless entry, parking sensors or the fancy 360 degree auto parking, chrome or Matt black trims, different alloys, tinted windows and finally full link infotainment or just satellite navigation. Only the lack of full link would be a deal breaker for me. I'm hopeful that they wouldn't just charge the exact price those components would cost specced normally, otherwise I'm not quite sure what the point of the first edition would be. Apart from maybe a special badge on the back!?
Generally I am looking at SE trim with one of the petrol engines. So it would have to match that at a minimum. Wish they would put the configuratior up on the UK website. I have read it's available to play with on other country websites.

The 'first edition' will probably not be a choice for me as I want 4drive and DSG.
So for me I would be looking at a Xcellence 2.0 190 TDi DSG 4drive with some additions. Essential for me would be heated front window, electrically adjustable drives seat.
We have a heated front window on the Yeti, it's brilliant, the drivers seat option I do not have as it was only option a month after I took delivery.
At least it seems that Seat are offering a wide range of options and packs from the start.

Visited a couple of dealers today, information much as we know, pre orders May for September delivery. First driveable cars seem to be July/August. BUT I did manage to pick up a printed catalogue which whilst the same basic information as the download is obviously much easier and clearer to read. Big difference in the attitudes and information available at these companies with one being very good and the other rubbish, in my view. The best guy gave us a valuation on our car and talked through the potential buying options based on other Seat new car releases. We have another dealer to visit next week as we are trying to keep our options open.
Sounds promising about cars available to drive. Im sure at worst dealerships would be able to import one from Europe to at least give an idea on size/shape. I know my local Honda dealership did that for the new Hr-v.
I'm hopeful that the first edition if I did go for that would be available earlier than September. Just waiting for May to tick round now! All will be revealed.

I could see that coming in say April next year. There is a 1.5 TSI which I'm sure Freddie will tell us about but he discounted it, it's bigger and better. Will possibly irritate those waiting for the 1.4 if they switched to that.
The other thing is that some brokers source cars from Eire, so you could see any petrol DSGs coming in that way. Then you have the 2WD 2.0 TDI diesels that got shelved due to the design issue of no AdBlue method designed in, one was a DSG the other manual. With more anti diesel feeling I could see Seat never bringing those to market and releasing the petrol DSG to the UK.
