Hi folks, had this all day today, would set off and disengage only on second go with decent revs. Also was informed that it had gone for a wander in works car park today all on its own and rolled backwards in to another car :o

Will keep an eye on it must not have engaged the handbrake and not noticed when i got out.

I'm not the only one!

Although I should point out that I am not actually taking pleasure in you having the same issue. On the plus side it really does seem to have worked itself out now.
Ateca Xcellence, 1.4TSi, Lava Blue, too poor to get any options...

There is an issue with the Auto Handbrake sticking and SEAT UK know all about it as well.

My issues started in September when the brakes where binding and the hand brake was not releasing when the clutch was being released. So 17/9/18 it went into SEAT Blade to be looked at for hot brakes and hand brake not releasing, no fault found.

25/10/18 the car was back at SEAT Blade as the brakes were still binding and the car was struggling to pull away whether forwards or reversing and the hand break was not disengaging. I also raised the issue that the car would lurch forward when the hand brake finally released and was worried it was going to cause an me an accident. They said a fault was found with the auto hold so they did a new software update on the car.

19/11/18 car brakes and hand brake are playing up again as the hand brake not releasing. I also sent the dealership 8 dash cam clips of where I was trying to pull away and the car would not move. The dealership had my car for 3 days and the sales man admitted that after driving my car for 1 hour he had had enough of the auto hold issue and that there was definitely something wrong with my car.

The kicker in the teeth is that he said that as they have already completed the software update on my car to correct the issue there is no other fix currently available for my car and that the only option until a solution is available is to drive around with the auto hold switched off. I did not pay all this money for a car that I cannot use all the functions on . The salesman did tell me that there is an issue with the SEAT Leon & Ateca with the auto hold but the software update should have fixed it. Apparently I am one of 7 Ateca's in the UK with the auto hold issue.

04/12/18 at lunchtime I got in the car to go back to work and I tried 3 times to get the car started and could not get the car to start. It was cranking but not starting up, so on the 4th attempt I actually videoed myself starting the car and it would not start again, I let go of the key and it stayed in the start position with the engine cranking. So I phoned SEAT Assistance and they sent the AA out, I showed the AA man the video clip and he tried the car and it started. So he followed me to the garage and my car is currently at the dealership.

I am now so sick and fed up with this car and I only picked it up 18 July 2018 and its been in the garage 4 times. Has anyone else have these issues?

I have had no issues, but then I never use autohold and only ever apply the hand brake manually. To be fair, that's all you need to do on a DSG.
1.4TSI DSG Xcellence delivered 2/3/17 after 6 months wait. Brilliant Silver. 18" machined alloys. Park Assist. 360º cameras. Power boot. All driver assists. Alcantara. SEAT sound.

Hi All,

Not sure if this thread is still very active or not. But sadly it looks like i am having the same issues as Rae9911. We bought our '18 Ateca 2.0 TDI 4Drive FR used on 02/03/19.

The Auto Handbrake was initially very sticky at first and quite lurchy on the release and then it got better. It was virtually unnoticeable during a longer journey this weekend. Then I had a panicked cal from my girlfriend where the car simply just would not move.

Ours is a manual, shifting into first and gently bringing up the clutch to bite usually results in the brake releasing. Not this time it is STUCK FAST. This is also replicated when trying to drive in reverse too. No amount of force or revs will get it to release. Switch off the Auto Handbrake and it's fine. Not ideal as the auto handbrake is very useful!

Th worrying thing for me is that our car looks to be around a very similar build age to Rae991's making me think this could be an issue with a tranch of cars. Another common factor is we both have the '4Drive' drivetrain?

I have booked our car in for inspection on Thursday. I will keep you all updated! :(

I've already posted about our on-going Auto Hold and electronic handbrake issues elsewhere on this forum, and I am sad to see many other Ateca owners seeing this issue. Our 2017 Ateca XC 2.0 Manual (4Drive also) had developed the exact same issues as prescribed here in this thread; with Auto Hold is turned on, a lot of times the car would not release the brakes when clutch is coming up and car is lurching forward, but a quick press in and out of the clutch again release it. This causes wear on the clutch.

What we are doing now is not to use Auto Hold but just to pull up the Electronic Handbrake when needed (red (P) symbol on dash). Now, when the clutch comes up the brakes do release normally and you can drive away. We dare not touch the Auto Hold now, and using this method works for us. SEAT Customer Support state that a new software patch is needed and that it is coming, but we've been waiting since January, so not too sure when it'll arrive for us. What is worse is that our warranty is out at the end of the year, so hoping it doesn't become a long-standing issue.
