Post by Vianni1970 » Sat Jan 05, 2019 12:34 pm

I am thinking of buying an Ateca. It’s recently introduced in Egypt. I have a typical question wh I am sure was asked before, what do you think of dSG Dq 200 dry.

Imo it's extreamly good. This is my 5th auto car and this is the best box I've had.

Don't test drive it in eco mode though, it ruins the ability of this gearbox

On forums such as this you are going to hear all the problems and rightly so, but you don't hear from all the others without issues and without knowing numbers sold its hard to judge if this is any more frequent than other models/makes, yes be aware but also check the alternatives aren't equally prone to issues

This article is quite interesting... It states that improvements have been made and that the only issue is normal wear and tear on the clutch...

Excellent article. Someone should send it to that idiot ‘Honest John’” who has a column The Telegraph, where almost weekly, he slags off any car with this box. VAG have sold literally millions of them so, of course, there may well be failures, but that applies to almost any component over time. It’s also fair to assume that VAG are aware of the failures and have minimised them over time.

Apart from all the “fake news’ associated with this box, from my experience especially as far as using the paddles, it is as near perfect as any auto box could be.

The only advice I would add is that, in a serious stop go situation in heavy traffic, to put it in neutral when you are stopped. Of course, if Start/ Start is working, then you don’t need to do that as the clutches are inactive.

It probably does, but many people find that auto hold prevents a clean getaway compared with holding the automatic “creep” facility back on the brake and just releasing the brake when you want to move forward.
