Car has arrived with the wrong engine and no rear camera - wasn't expecting that!

Guys, I wonder if you can assist a future Ateca owner. I ordered an Ateca 1.4 TSI DSG FR 5 months ago. I knew delivery would take a while. However, despite twice monthly email updates from the dealer saying “no change”, to my surprise the car has now arrived but with a 1.5 TSI engine and no rear parking camera. I do a lot of driving in the US and over there rear parking cameras are everywhere, so I’ve kind of got used to them and it was a significant factor when I chose the Ateca. The car has come with Park Assist, which I paid extra for but is now standard I believe.

My question to you is with Park Assist, if I choose to reverse into a space manually do the Park Assist rear sensors provide any visual warning on the dashboard display or audio warning of nearby objects? So, will it work like a rear parking sensor when PA is not in use?

TIA

If you search for missing rear view camera you'll see this has happened a lot with the recent orders and most have had the dealer retro fit at the dealership

I also ordered 1.4 FR and received 1.5 and no rear view camera so I contacted SEAT UK they have arranged for my missing rear view camera to be fitted at the dealer free of charge. I believe this is a common problem as the cameras are on back order with a delivery time of 6 weeks due to demand I suspect this is due to the missing ones requiring retrofit

The answer to all those question is yes.

Like you I'm bemused by the lack of cameras as standard here vs the US - rental SUVs for years have had cameras and it was standard on the mk1 Tiguan sold over there. However it does have a downside that it's an extra thing to look at when reversing. The sensors are remarkably precise.

If you look at page 41 of:

https://web1.seat.co.uk/sites/default/f ... 2018_5.pdf

They list the rear camera of the Ateca as dealer fit part - no idea of price however as mine came with 360 ones.

Today the newish Ateca look bad value with kit offered vs Skoda equivalent

The FR MY 18 spec included a rear view camera but it was removed from the MY 19 model. Those of us who ordered in MY18 and had to wait beyond the change to MY19 were expecting a rear view camera but they were not included in the MY19 build. SEAT have undertaken to retrofit rear view cameras at no cost to those who have complained, which has resulted in a back order of 6 weeks. A retrofit camera is available at £451 if you didn’t order one.

Apart from no camera haven't you done better with the 1.5. It's still turbocharged isn't it. Why do you specifically want the 1.4?

Thanks for the responses guys. The dealer has offer to drop the price by £1k if I take the car 'as is' or by £500 if they fit the missing reversing camera.

As for the query from Dennis regarding engines, I drove both the 1.4 (Ateca) and 1.5 (Karoq) TSI engines prior to ordering and whilst I acknowledge they have near identical performance figures I found the 1.4 to be more willing to rev and it seemed to have more 'get up and go'. The 1.5 seemed more leisurely by comparison. The 1.4 engine was one of the reasons I chose the SEAT. Bit of a moot point anyway as the 1.4 is no longer available in the Ateca, I'd just like to have been told that by the dealer.

If you haven't taken delivery yet then the easiest solution is telling the dealer to stuff it. If the car isn't what you ordered and nobody informed you of an engine change then simply don't accept the car.

Why not buy a low miles used 1.4 that has the reversing camera?
