If you are getting 55mpg in the 1.5tsi you must be driving very slowly indeed. I have got near to that once but it was the slowest most boring drive I could ever imagine.

I am happy to get 33mpg which is my current average which proves it is pointless comparing mpg figures as everyone drives differently and under different conditions. Perhaps we should have a poll for the more adventurous drivers to see who can get through a tank the quickest :D :D

it was a bit stop start on the m60 but nice and steady once we cleared it, I always use cruise control don't know if that makes a difference

I used to have a 1.4 TSI MK6 Golf which gave me on average 41mpg for what I use the car for; perhaps less at this time of year in the cold. Ateca (which is obviously heavier) is giving me almost exactly the same economy so far so I really can't complain (1.5TSI manual, done about 1200 miles in total over a month). I may be consciously driving the Ateca slightly more efficiently, but not by much.

There are two things I find though:

1. The economy at motorway speeds in the Ateca seems FAR worse than the Golf (less than 40mpg usually when I look), which conversely must mean the Ateca is more efficient than the Golf at lower speeds - the 2-cylinder mode (which I find clever) and start/stop probably helping there.

2. The petrol light in the Ateca comes on WAY too early for my liking. Each of the three times I've had to fill up due to the "worry", I've only done about 390 miles. This makes me think the car isn't as efficient as the Golf (425-450 miles out of that always) BUT it's just because the Ateca is being overly-safe. On each occasion I have had about 11 litres left in the tank (assuming it's 55 litres?) when it starts panicking me, which is another 75 miles or so! But I just can't bring my self to drive too far with that petrol light on.......!

I have to say I prefer a gauge to the digital squares.

Early tank refill is a good practice to prevent a fuel pump failure in a modern car. That's probably why the early red light.

Im getting a fairly consistent 37.5mpg in my 1.5 tsi. with 50/50 town and motorway driving though much of this is in rush hour.

Lower than i expected and i had a 300+ mile clear motorway run which only got to 38.5mpg. Seems the drag of an suv has a big impact at motorway speeds. I was expecting it to be well into the 40s given this engines eco credentials on paper.

I don't do too high a mileage otherwise I'd go back to diesel. Had been getting 65mpg in some rental diesel hatchbacks from 42mpg in my previous diesel astra (165bhp) so i expected petrol engine efficiency would have moved on a lot too.

I’ve only had mine for ten days but I’m getting an average since new of around 36mpg. This has mostly been rush hour, bumper to bumper driving, or short hops into the local town from a cold start. On the couple of motorway drives I’ve done, she’s been in the upper 40s.

This is the 2.0 Tdi DSG 4drive (150) and I have Eco selected. I’m a fairly steady driver and not interested in speed (I also sail a long-keel sloop, which tells fellow sailors all they need to know about my need for speed. Or not!).

I’m hoping this will improve as the car gains a few miles and I get onto the open road a bit more. Every other car I’ve had (save one. Long story), I’ve managed to get at least the combined mpg predicted by the Parker guide (51mpg for this model), and they have all been elderly cars with high mileage, so I have high hopes for Nanny.*

I get about 300 miles from a full tank, but in all fairness I have to drive over 2 mountains to work so overall I'm quite pleased with it.

Our SEAT Ateca 1.4TSI has averaged 43mpg over 14,000 miles. On some long journeys 49mpg has been achieved (Sheffield to Devon - 388miles) and this was using motorway speeds. My wife, who I think drives slightly slower than myself, can achieve 52mpg showing on the car display but when this is calculated by filling the tank and working out mpg by dividing miles covered by actual gallons used this will drop to around 48mpg so please take the car readout with a very big pinch of salt. Our previous SEAT Toledo 1.6Tdi was 8% high but I haven't worked this out for the Ateca

We don't allow the low fuel warning to come on so a refill at around 3 dots gives us between 300 and 427 miles.

The 43mpg over 14,000 miles is calculated and is not the car reading. Also most of our motoring is out of town.
