My thoughts on my apparent premature tyre wear was perplexing, especially, as other posters have mentioned, with the lighter 1.0 tsi engine fitted.
The majority of my previous cars have been heavier TDIs, and apart from the VW Touareg, which consumed tyres for breakfast, tyre wear was much less than what I have noted on the Ateca.
If I had checked sooner I would have rotated the tyres; however, I'm an advocate for having the least worn tyres on the rear axle so will just change the fronts when they wear to 3mm.
As I have one eye currently on my clutch wear, I'm driving a little more gently now to determine whether it's my driving style that is not agreeable with the clutch.

Car had first service at 10k last week with health check thrown in. Service manager said all fine apart from front tyres in amber on list! 4.2mm and 4.4mm, rears OK at 6.0mm. Very surprised as drive to max fuel economy and never push it hard as most of time family on board. Tyres are 18'' Falkens. Not impressed. Would expect this with heavier diesel engine but not a 1.0tsi.

My 1.6 SE just been for a service today. He asked if I drove on country roads and lanes a lot as my front tyres are down to 2.5-3mm and I've done 12,000 miles. He was very surprised at the wear!

You'll probably have far more life left in the back tyres. Time to swap front with back. The only downside to doing this is that you end up having to finally replace all four tyres in one go rather than just two at a time.

At least, the longer you wait, the more available the tyres will be and probably cheaper by then.
