Information wanted on double boot floor

Post by Derek53 » Thu Dec 28, 2017 7:36 pm

Hi, I'm about to order an Ateca 1.4 TFSIEco , the petrol model, and need someone to tell me how the double floor in the boot works. I'm getting conflicting info from dealers as I want to use a space saver spare wheel and fitting in an aftermarket inflation kit when I want to. I'm told by one dealer the double floor cannot be used with the double floor.

In the brochure it says it cannot be used with the diesel 4 wheel drive apparently because it has a tank in the way that holds Ad blue.

another dealer has informed me a spare wheel can be used.

Can anyone who has one explain what is correct please. Many thaks.

Derek,
I've got a double floor in a 2.0 diesel 4wd - so the double floor can only be in the upper most position, but I do have the Space saver spare underneath and the 4wd has less depth than the non 4wd variants due the 4drive/suspension hence double floor really just giving me a higher floor position in the boot, but double floor and spare should be possible. Mine was an post- factory option through my SEAT dealer as I couldn't change the spec to include the Space saver.

Thanks for all the replies all very helpful. Unfortunately I don't trust the garages, the sales people should know what is available and how things work - they don't. I was forcefully told the double floor with a spare was not possible it was too high. contacted Seat Customer Service twice for a definite answer, both agents failed to return my call with an answer. This is a simple question and the dealer and the agents should be able to answer the question. A very poor result from the dealer and the Seat customer Service. do I really want a Seat after this - NO, I'll loose my deposit on cancelling the order but at least I'll feel comfortable about it.

If one dealer says yes and the other says no... at least one of those sales people is right.

I've been looking around for a 2nd car on and off for the past few months and I sympathise with you - the product knowledge of sales people is frighteningly bad. I don't even bother responding when I know they're giving mis-information. Most frustrating of all is when the sales team hand you over to the 'product specialist' - you ask him or her a simple question and they don't know. Before each test drive I ask how to zero the avg. fuel computer setting - not one SEAT dealer could tell me. I also wanted a car which would display text messages - I reckon about 75% of the people I asked hadn't a clue if their cars could display text messages and of the 25% who gave an answer, only one dealer had actually used the facility. It was left to me to play around with their systems and then show them how their cars worked!

If you're still unsure, the only thing I can suggest is who ever you're buying the car from, make sure your concern is clearly stated on the order form: "Car to be supplied with spare tyre + double boot floor". If the car supplied doesn't meet that criteria you simply walk away with your deposit.

When I discussed the order with the dealer thr sales was adamant the double foot is not available with spare wheel, this was stated three times. As with other comments on the forum dealer knowledge is not good at all. It has got to the point of ordering the car and see what turns up. So order the car and after a 4/5 month wait the spare wheel may fit, or not, it may not even turn up so a a specific request could be ignored or changed because dealers, and customer service at Seat don't know the product. Seat customer service promised to call me back twice. No calls.

That's par for the course with just about every dealership these days - it's caused by a salesperson selling insurance one month, cars the next, double glazing the month after that. Over the years I've learned to ignore what any salesperson tells me - as far as I'm concerned a salesperson's role is to negotiate a deal.

Sounds like the problem you're having is you're specifing a car on word of mouth. Even if SEAT customer serviced call back, it's still word-of-mouth which is useless. Get the information you want in writing.

I disagree with what you say - "wait and see what turns up". Have you used SEAT's online configurator? Are you able to chose a double boot floor and spare with your model / engine choice?

Go to a broker like WEBUYANYCAR (there are others) and start an order process... are you able to specify the car you want with double floor and spare? Yes. ( If you go ahead with the order, the broker will contact the garage and they'll call you to confirm the order... give you concerns to them - will the car be exactly as per order - with spare + double boot.)

And then you have current owners on here telling you you can.

If I were in your shoes, I'd go to a dealer who will order what you want. If that's not possible then ask the dealer who says it's not possible to show you evidence of this. Ask him why does SEAT's online configurator allow it - why does other dealerships allow it. Ask him to place an order on his system and show you on they system where it says you cannot have a double boot floor and spare. Who knows, he may well be correct in what he says, but NEVER take word-of-mouth from a salesman as the truth.

Being my sceptical-self, especially when salespeople are involved, I'd say the chances are he has the car you want already on order, it's just it doesn't have the double-boot floor option - i.e. he's simply trying to shift stock.

Ok, my experience may help you here.

ORIGINALLY back when the Ateca was launched you COULD NOT order the double boot floor with space saver (this is what it said in the brochures).

However, in the December 2016 price list changes you COULD order both the double boot floor and space saver spare if you had front wheel drive (so the 4Drive you CANNOT and that is still the case today for obvious reasons).

When I came to ordering in March I had this exact same argument with my dealer - they said no. I pointed out the section in the printed brochure, but they still said no. So as the spare was more important I ordered minus the double-floor (still wanted the Ateca). However, not happy with the answer and the mismatch of information I contacted Seat UK customer services.

They responded with the stock "ask your dealer" response initially, but I said to them:

"Look I don't believe they had the right information so either:
a) Your dealer is correct and your printed materials and the on-line configurator are wrong in which case you need to correct them, or
b) Your dealer is incorrect and they need to be briefed correctly."

I was prepared to be proven wrong if need be but asked them to give me a definitive answer as the manufacturer because I wanted both options if I could. They forwarded my query to the head office sales team who came back immediately saying that firstly if the configurator says you can have it then you can and secondly the printed materials were correct. They also then had a word with my dealer who rang me shortly afterwards to confirm that I had been correct and they had adjusted my order, adding the double-boot floor.

Long story short - I'm now driving around in a XCellence 1.4TSi Manual with Space-Saver Spare and Double-Boot Floor 8-)

If you wanted to double check, use this configuration code "S5IBMW2G" in the online configurator at http://configurator.seat.co.uk/seat-cc/ ... view?msk=2 (click "Load configuration by code>" in the top right hand corner).

Sorry Hoddsy, you can't have both options on factory orders for the 4WD versions. Grahamn above has managed to order 4WD with the double-boot floor and then retro-fitted the space-saver spare afterwards, but the reason you can't order both from the factory is because there is less room in the 4WD boot so the spare wheel blocks the lower position of the double floor.
Now driving: Ateca XCellence 1.4 TSi in Rodium Grey with XCellence + Advanced Driving Assistance Packs, Double Boot Floor + Space Saver Spare - Ordered week 9, confirmed built week 26&27&28, arrived in UK week 30 - Collected 1st Sept 8-)
