Roof box - panoramic roof

Post by Daibach1973 » Tue Jun 12, 2018 11:14 am

Hi
I posted this a few weeks ago but got no response, so I’ll try again....

I’ve just ordered a new Ateca with the panoramic roof. Can anyone tell me whether I can fit a roof box? I’ve had mixed answers from different dealerships? Need to know ASAP if possible so that I can change my order!

Many thanks in advance

I do not see a problem if you do NOT open the sunroof... You will use the roof box occasionally I assume, so you can enjoy the nice air breeze of the sunroof when it will not be mounted :)

See pic from original SEAT Ateca brochure...Image

Thanks for that. That’s good to know. SEAT UK have given me 2 different answers via phone and email. One person saying it’s fine (as long as I only use SEAT bars and box?!!?) and the other saying I can’t use one because the wind resistance/drag between the box and the roof could cause the sunroof to shatter 😬

I have the panoramic roof and bought roof bars from Aldi at just 29.50 - they not only fit well, the roof section opens fine! My conclusion is that there should be no hitches with a roof box other than maintaining recommended speeds!

On a further technical point, I fitted my roof bars with the roof already open to ensure adequate clearance was achieved and then closed it! I have not fitted a roof box, but would adopt the same approach regarding clearance just in case a bracket drops down into the way etc!

The car i am looking to buy in the showroom has Seat roof bars and a roof box on it. So yes, its possible but no idea if aftermarket is available.

Its a xellence with pano roof. Quite a big box as well
