wheel spacers

Post by val_858 » Fri Jul 20, 2018 12:30 am

Hi All

Has anybody thought of widening the track of an Ateca using 20mm wheel spacers all round to improve handling and give it a bit more aggressive stance..current OEM stance is a bit sucked in.. i think..

No, but it sounds like a good idea.
I've heard that 20mm shouldnt cause extra wear, so go for it.

(most oem stances are a bit sucked in if you ask me)

Thanks.. I've seen pictures of promotional photos of the Ateca where the tyre wall sits flush at edge of the fenders.. specially the Ateca Cupra .. so i thought it should be okay.. it's the offset of the wheel i'd like to copy..shame that the one we buy even the FR trim could still do with widening the track all round.. but yeah..wheel spacers are on order now and will take photos once installed..

Cool. If I ever get my car I'm gonna do the same, a good pair of wheels and a nice stance does so much for a car.

245s on 8x18 at ET45 works well without spacers.

Yes, but not if you already have them. I've collected a few sets from various VAG cars over the years, mainly for winter use. These have been used on 4 of my cars so far.

Most of the reviews I've read since the Ateca was launched, rate it as one of the best handling SUV's in the class. What evidence do you have to say it will improve handling? Screwing around with the steering geomerty may well upset the handling. If it did improve things, I'm sure SEAT would have already done this or sell it as a kit/option.

Well SEAT does sell a wider track version like on the FR Trim across all models.. (tyre wall is flushed with fender edges).. and before you say that why i did not buy an FR trim or even the Ateca Cupra well my Ateca is only a company car.. otherwise i would buy something else if it were my money.. not that i don't like the Ateca don't get me wrong but the mid spec Ateca could still do a bit more to improve handling.. i've had some experience putting wheel spacers to my 2006 Vauxhall Zafira VXR before and like the Ateca; the Zafira; from reviews; was already a good handling MPV..but i could really tell that the lateral handling was improved..it's more planted and body roll was minimal..i had my Zafira VXR until 2014 with no failure or even advisories about suspension components being ruined nor uneven wear to my tyres. i have also put wheel spacers to my 2009 Audi A5 2.7 tdi, track day Mitsubishi Evo 8, FTO GPX, my sons Renault Twingo RS Gordini to name some and it achieves the same effect..most of the cars i've put spacers on have had owners from the forum put them on and majority had a good experience..including me..i was hoping that since the Ateca had been out since 2016 that someone has had thought of this..but anyways you are entitled to your opinion just like i am too..
