Ateca 1.6 Tdi Xcellence Lux [ez] + Roof Box & Bars

Post by d.741@btinternet.com » Wed Dec 12, 2018 1:32 pm

I have recently ordered a Ateca 1.6 Tdi Xcellence Lux [ez]. Does anyone have one of these and what is the car like ? Our car is due by end of Feb as a build week of 04.

Also the dealership is quoting £189 for roof bars and £449 for a roof box. Is it worth buying these or should I shop around ?

I think only 2 or 3 of us on here went for the 1.6tdi.. most on here are petrol or 2.0tdi..
I find the engine fine.. plenty enough pull, equiv to other 1.6tdi I have had, and get mid 40s around town, mid 60s on mway run...

I bought my bars from roofbox.co.uk there's a thread in the gallery section somewhere...

I have a 1.6TDI

Happy with it.

Was a decision between the 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI for me. Advantages for 1.6 were lower cost, higher mpg, bigger boot (2.0 TDI has smaller boot due to AWD), no adblue (1 extra hassle/cost) with the only downside being that the 1.6 doesn't accelerate as quickly as the 2.0.

The best word to describe the performance would be 'adequate'. Compared to other diesels I've driven, it revs nicely to accelerate in the lower gears, it tends to be 5th/6th where you notice you have to change down gear to accelerate at low revs. Quite interesting there's some quoted figures from road tests by car magazines that show a 0-62 time much quicker than the official time for this car. And from general driving with how it accelerates in all gears except except 5th/6th this is quite believable.

Fuel economy not bad, tend to get around 50mpg from a tank with a mix of town and motorway with some longer trips being around 60mpg.

Yes, it certainly gets there ok. Just compared to other cars of similar power I tend to find that's where I notice the difference at the higher speeds at low revs, it's all relative to what your used to as to how noticeable it is.

For example, our other car is a Mazda 3 1.6TDI which has 115ps like the Ateca, performance stats in link below show Ateca is slightly quicker in lower gears - see 80-12 km in 4th but a lot slower for 80-120 km in 6th. Although part of this is down to the gearing setup I believe as the Mazda sits a higher revs doing the same speed in the same gear (mazda is around 2100 revs at 70 in 6th where as Ateca is 1900).

Similar story when comparing Ateca 1.6TDI to Ateca 1.0TSI in link below, little difference in 4th but bigger difference in 5th/6th.

For me it's the 1 minor area I've found where it's not as good as other's I've driven but still very happy with it overall.

The 1.6TDi does now come with adblue! I collected mine last week and was shocked (and disappointed) to find it fitted.

Got mine yesterday and only driven for an hour but have to say it pulls ok. If I need a bit more I can just flick it into sport mode. I’m not sure why people have a problem with adblue, it’s only £10 a bottle and that lasts ages.

I do 20K miles a year and the adblue lasts only 3K miles. It's not just the added expense it's the hassle of having to fill it up.

Re roof bars and roofbox, I'd certainly shop around. A Thule roofbox can be had for £200-£300 new, obviously less 2nd hand.
