Xcellence - No Visible Exhaust

Post by chickey92 » Tue Jan 15, 2019 1:48 pm

Hi there,

I collected my new Ateca a week ago today. I am based in Ireland and bought a 1.6 TDI Xcellence model from a local dealer.

Only today, I have noticed that there is no double exhaust on the back and it just looks like an entry level spec. Does anyone know if the spec has changed? I know Ireland get less spec compared to UK but I have seen the double exhaust on other Irish Atecas including the 2018 plate I test drove.

Appreciate any advice!

It should. I just checked the Irish configurator and it's standard spec for Xcellence. Phone your dealer and let me know as i've an Xcellence on order in Galway.

I stand to be corrected but a quick check on Autotrader showed 1.6TDI cars do have hidden exhausts, like the 1.0 petrol that I have. That's not to say SEAT have changed spec, which is quite common.

Let us know how you get on with this.

I just put it though the configurator and when you select 1.6tdi the exhaust disappears

I just checked that too on a laptop. On my phone it didn't update the exterior and the dealer has confirmed same. You do however get in on the 2.0 TDI AWD version.

Strange that it's specific to the engine type ...

I've only just had my 1.6TDi Xcellence Lux and it doesn't have visible exhausts.

There's nothing strange at all - an exhaust is part of the engine, it's not a decoration. (Cosmetic chrome exhaust ends are used to distinguish between various model specifications within the range, but the exhaust itself is the same for every car).

All 1.6tdi throughout the SEAT as well as any VW group car will have a single exhaust. The 1.0tsi has a tiny little single exhaust.

The twin exhausts exists on the 1.4tsi, 2.0tsi and 2.0tdi.

Probably the best example is to go to Autotrader and look for 2016 VW Golf 'Match' specification cars. ( I suggest Match trim because those cars were used with most engines.)

You can clearly see all 1.0tsi, 1.2tsi and 1.6tdi Match's have a single exhausts, whilst 1.4tsi and 2.0tdi have double exhausts.
