Speed Cameras - There is a way

Post by dasalias » Sat Jun 01, 2019 9:45 am

Following VW's decision to pull the speed camera update facility, an alternative method has emerged on the Seatcupra.net forum. The procedure requires a subscription to a speed camera website and a small donation to the original developer. I found the procedure a little tricky at first, but perseverance worked and I can confirm that I have speed cameras with the warning sound working on my system.

Procedure is here:

Thanks go to Tell on the Seatcupra.net forum for the post.

Or you can save the cash and hassle and just use Google maps on CarPlay or Android Auto as they now show speed cameras on your route. Waze has a similar feature.

Does Google Maps or Waze not use my phone data? I’m on PAYG and don’t have an unlimited data contract.

It does but very little, I use Waze and google maps daily in my work van..
In the last month for me my handset says google maps used 7.6Mb and Waze 5.9Mb...

As ghigzz said below it uses very little data. If you are worried about the data though you can download maps on WiFi to work offline so you don’t have to have a data connection. I’ve never tried this function so not sure how it good it would be and obviously you wouldn’t get live traffic on route if you’re using it offline.

If you have the voice activated for the navigation in Google it alerts you that you’re approaching a speed camera and there’s a icon on the screen showing the location of the camera. I use CarPlay so I can’t confirm this but apparently on Android Auto there’s an option to report a mobile speed camera van if you pass one on your route. Waze allows you to do this also.
