My long-term (over 2000 miles) is showing at 41.5mpg which means 39.5mpg in reality. This is over a mixture of all road types and journeys in the 1.5 manual.

My main commute’s economy (25 miles) is “ruined” by the Yorkshire hills and a good 5 mile stint at 70mph (this engine drinks a lot of fuel at high speeds as people have said).
But it’s not all about the economy for me either - I bought this particular SUV (rather than say a Karoq or a 3008 or even a Tiguan) to have some fun every now and then and I can honestly say switching into Sport briefly does provide that. It’s just as good as the Golf I had before.

I find the 1.5 engine excellent (never had any of the infamous issues with it at all). Yes, if you push it going up a hill, the numbers drop in front of your eyes. But I’d rather have the performance there than not have it as an option. I gave someone a lift tonight who has a 2.0 Vectra SRi and he was very impressed with how the car performs when you put your foot down in Sport.

Which engine/gearbox is this for? Looks pretty impressive for petrol; you must be an economical driver.

Curiosity must be satisfied... :)

I'm averaging a little over 40mpg at the moment (in and out of Belfast, a roughly 20-30 mile round trip with hilly stretches and town traffic) on my brand new 2.0 Tdi DSG 4Drive, and it's good to see the figures gradually improving as the car gets a few more miles under its belt. On a motorway drive, I get upper 40s.
We got our cars pretty close together, I’ve not been out and about much, one 280 mile motorway drive the rest is around town, I’ve averaged 38mpg over 525 miles range now at 35 miles. I was getting 42 mpg with my 3.0tdv6 Jag XF.

I gotta say not impressed yet but hoping as the engine beds in things will improve.

The above info from Golfmk56 is really helpful. Can anyone point me to a decent guide to the fuel consumption part of the driving data? My previous car had an ongoing av overall MPG on display. My 1.5 Evo SE Tech ATECA has more to offer but as shown above unless you know what it can do it looks tricky to use. The manual is not much help at all. Where can I find out more? My new car's MPG after 200 motorway miles on ECO mode is showing 30 mpg, which can't be right surely.

I'm on 36.2 mpg over 5500 miles in a 1.5TSI - Big mix of road types, like just done 3 months of 26 mile/day communting into central London, also had six 350 mile motorway trips and also general non-commuting. Most of that time its been on Eco and I've still to do the last engine software update notified in November. Mid 30's doesn't sound that great these days but fuel consumption wasn't my first priority anyway.

My long term over 2600 miles is 37.9, it’s early days yet and too soon to assess I guess.

Mixed driving town and motorway, about 1200 miles of the 2600 is probably motorway mileage M25, M1, M6, M5 and M40 between London and Brum, alternative routes there of course a single journey wouldn’t be using all of those motorways,

I get About 32 mpg but with a lot of fast motorway driving. I find that eco mode makes little difference. If I do a 20 mile slow local run I can get 52mpg. It depends enormously on the road conditions and your style of driving. One thing for sure, driving at 70 or over really drinks fuel.

I also did not notice any change as the mileage increased. The days of an engine “loosening up” as it runs in are long gone.

I’ve noticed the car doesn’t always start up in “normal” mode, I know the mode has to selected on startup, but I find its sometimes on snow, sometimes on Eco, I would expect it to start in normal.
