Farewell!

Post by richardaudi0 » Wed Apr 07, 2021 6:08 pm

After three years and two months our Ateca Xcellence 1.4 DSG has gone back to Motability. It has been totally reliable, had no rattles or squeaks and has been a pleasure to drive over its 23,877 miles. The front tyres lasted until a couple of hundred miles ago and were replaced at 2mm tread, as per Motability's guidelines, and the front wipers lasted until about 50 miles ago, when the blade on the passenger side one started to become detached. Unlike a lot of other owners, we've never had a problem with the front wipers, although the back one could occasionally be noisy on the first wipe. Over its lifetime it average 41.3mpg according to Fuelly. We always brimmed it until the pump cut out and then reset the trip each full-up. The only thing we won't miss is washing the alloy wheels—they look great but are a pig to clean!

Replaced with Mercedes-Benz B200 AMG Line Premium Plus. Thought we'd have a change this time round and move away from the VW Group platforms but we would have considered an Audi Q3 but that was not available on Motability then. The Benz was really good value on Motability at the time we ordered—and it was extremely well equipped, including a panoramic roof but we had to wait seven months for it. Looked at the BMW X1: good looking and a nice interior but very poor value with sparse equipment, harsh ride, uncomfortable standard seats—and the advance payment was more than for the Benz. Volvo XC40 came a close second but was not as well equipped, very comfortable but a little claustrophobic inside because of the shape of the rear doors so we thought it needed a panoramic roof but that was £1,000 more! Also looked at the Peugeot 3008: comfortable, quite well equipped but several hundred pounds more than the B200 and a bit blingy on the outside, we thought. The Ateca has set the bar high, so the Benz has a great deal to live up to.
