Ateca Hybrid?

Post by Welshman » Wed Jul 26, 2017 9:16 pm

With today's news a new Ateca Petrol or Deisel will not be available in the UK or France after 2040; In Norway it is 2030. Is the next variant a hybrid? A spacious boot leaves a lot of room for batteries.

Would a full electric plug in to charge be sufficient to meet people's neeeds,or just use a petrol engine to continually generate the power for the electric motor and store excess in batteries so no searching for charging points then or worry about range etc. Not sure how all the current manufacturer systems work

Hybrids will also be banned as they use a petrol engine for 90% of their power needs. Only totally electric vehicles will be allowed.

There can't be an Ateca hybrid in 2040 as hybrid suggests two power sources. If they're ending petrol / diesel engine sales by 2040 then it'll be an electric Ateca. (they might call it an A-lec-teca  )?

The Ateca name will probably have disappeared by 2040 and who knows, SEAT may have disappeared too. Every so often the parent company has a clear out to reduce production costs and with VW Group having so many similar cars across the board, smart money says they'll merge at some point. Who knows, the SUV trend may also be dead by 2040.

If we go back 23 years, who'd ever of thought a new Mondeo or Vectra/Insignia would be a rare sight today?

Rover 200 was one of the top 10 selling cars, look what happened there

As for the mini !! Austin then Rover now BMW. And it's anything but mini !

I can't see them excluding hybrids as they cause almost as much pollution as a petrol car. They will suddenly realise that and ban them otherwise the manufacturers will include a non plug in hybrid system that is there in name only. The Ateca uses regenerative braking energy stored in a battery - does that make it a hybrid? Plug in hybrids might just get away with it, but most of the small high volume hybrids are not PHEVs.

Cars will virtually all be electric and autonomous by then anyway. Driving a car yourself will be a quaint retro activity that you will need a special licence for. These announcements are absolute nonsense as so much will have changed in that time.

I saw a video by Bob Flavin on Youtube which showed him "driving" an Audi A5, I think. With the auto gearbox, adaptive cruise control, GPS, traffic sign recognition and lane keep assist, all he had to do was the occasional bit of steering. It was extraordinary, and that is happening right now.
Ateca Xcellence, 1.4TSi, Lava Blue, too poor to get any options...
Collected from dealer on April 8th. Have been hooning around in it ever since.

Yes, you can do all of that in the Ateca - exactly the same system.
