Tyre pressure - standard or comfort?

Post by Max Jaffa » Mon Dec 03, 2018 1:23 pm

Hi All,
According to the tyre pressure setting (indicated by the passenger door pillar sticker) I have 2 x options in my front wheel drive Ateca - the standard and the lower pressure "Comfort" alternative.

There are clearly going to be pros and cons - I assume that "Comfort" will feel slightly softer over the bumps, with increased tyre wear and slightly larger fuel consumption being the result.

Have you tried both? I prefer the firmer version myself - the car feels slightly more sprightly.

But - and I suppose this is the most important consideration - which setting will enable your pride and joy to grip the road the better?
And would the lower pressure work better on really cold days in snow for example: I assume that the grip would be better then?

All contributions gratefully received...

I lowered mine to comfort, (Falken tyres) less skittish on wet roads, less crashiness over bumps, don't see me running them any higher, unless things are different with another brand of tyre, you may get more miles running hard, or even more mpg, but mine is a company car so I don't worry about such things.
