I always park out of the way too. And not just because I don't want anyone to hit my car, I'm also paranoid I would hit someone else's car too because I did just that one time. I was 18 and a brand new driver so it was totally due to inexperience, but the paranoia stuck with me to this day. haha

I am a choosy parker too. However, that didn't help at the weekend.
I've just had a call from the insurance estimator: £1560 !!! (A new front bumper and headlight.) That's after having my previous car for 9 years scratch free. Unlucky this time !! ??
Currently driving a bright yellow Toyota Aygo. Great!! Hope it doesn't snow!

If you in the Med, expect your car to get sratched and bumped. Yes, doesnt make it look better, but obviously doesnt affect the way it drives and works (unless sensors/lights etc are damaged). Wouldn't worry about some minor scratches (like < 01.mm deep, or < 5cm long)... there are more important things in life ;-)

I agree. I live in Spain and, yes, you get the occasional scratch. I don’t understand why people in the UK are so precious about their cars, especially when very few of them actually own them!

Some of us like to keep our cars in pristine condition, granted some people don’t care but I want top value when I sell or trade in so having to pay £££ to repair damage not caused by me is money I don’t want to have to spend due to other inconsiderate motorists.

Another difference is that people in Spain (possibly other Med countries too, but I am guessing now) dont sell/buy much second hand cars. All the people I know at least (except one) buy new cars and drive them till they fall apart

That's me :)
I already miss my 12 y.o. Leon covered with dents and scratches. It is quite liberating when you see another scratch and don't give a damn.

I guess another thing is if they get scratched they don't rust as much as they do in the UK!

True, but another factor is that they don't have to salt the roads.

My wife’s car (fiesta) has a multude of scratches and dents from other car doors, see would park in the lobby of Tesco’s if possible, I always park my cars at about the furthest point preferably on an end, I like the walk to be fair.
