Just checked, I have 18" Falkens.

Any of the alternative brands likely to be quieter than Falkens? I find road noise intrusive above 60mph.

I’m hoping to pick up my 1.5 DSG xcellence lux with 19” alloys shortly. I like driving on winter tyres in the winter. Any suggestions on which ones I should budget/start saving for much appreciated. Early indications are £800 a set 😱. TIA

I have the 19's on mine with the original bridgestone potenza 235/40R19 R01 Y tyres and I am now needing to replace 2 of them as the treads gone and we are heading to the continent shortly.

The bridgestones come in at £135 a tyre without including fitting so I have been looking at Nexen which do one for £80-£90 and it seems to have better fuel efficiency rating. However the bridgestone are run-flats, which is handy to have in the event of a puncture as I found out with my previous Leon Fr when a pothole took out my front left and I was able to limp back to the garage.
Ateca Xcellence 1.4 Eco TSI, Rodium Grey, 19" Machined Alloys, Xcellence Pack, Double Boot Floor & Silver Side Skirt Trims. Ordered 21/02/2017, left factory 26/04/2017, collected May 2017.

Hi

On the side wall you will find “Tread wear” followed by a number e.g. Tread-wear 300.

The lower the number the softer (stickier) the tyre and the quicker it will wear down, conversely the higher the number the harder the rubber and more miles you get out of the tyre.

Bridgestone Turanza I had on my Touareg were 250 and were done at 9000 miles, I swapped them for UHP Grabbers with a TW of 300 which were still going strong after 12k when I sold the car.

Don’t forget to get your wheel alignment done when you get new rubber, especially on 4drive models, costs around £25 a corner last time I had it done on my Quattro 4 years ago

Thanks everyone. I normally have my winter tyres fitted (on my previous car) between mid November to mid March. They lasted 4 winters. I no longer buy budget tyres as I had a bad experience a few years ago when the metal wiring started to poke out from the sides on my tests .A blow out waiting to happen.
