Question for Dashcam Owners

Post by scodabey » Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:11 pm

Am going to fit a new dashcam in my car and it's going to be wired into the fuse box rather than the 12v socket.

When running the power cables down the A pillar, did anyone bother to disconnect the battery to avoid the potential triggering of the side airbag, or were you just careful?

I did neither, I used the OBD port as the power source,

Would you still not have to run the cable up the A pillar though?

Just got on with it, in the end it didn't go in the A pillar plastic rather tucked under the door seal. I didn't want to put anything there that would stop the air bag.

Just as good,
Is it visible anywhere?
Does anyone know what size piggyback fuse holder I need?
I can't transfer the one from my current car as it is a tiny one.

The fuses are the smaller ATM type. I fitted a Nextbase camera, the wiring kit comes with adaptors for both sizes of fuse.

It was pretty easy to do, just drop the glove box and piggyback off the rear wiper fuse. I routed the wire under the LH window trim, it's all completely invisible once in place.

I'll admit I got lazy and had enough cable to run it to the front USB ports. It tucked nicely under the glove box.
