Hit a low post, on Finance, what do I do?

Post by mysti77 » Tue Jan 14, 2020 9:59 am

Advice after hitting a low post please.

While reversing, I knocked a low post with the front left bumper, it was foggy/wet and the sensors didn't beep. The bumper is dented, the plastic bumper trim is unseated from the metal part, it has a tear in the metal at the top by the wheel and the plastic trim at the wheel is dented.

I'm on finance, bought March 2019. Service will be due soon. Do I wait until the Service to find out about the repair?

Thanks

If on finance is there a clause that states you must have repairs done by Seat authorised body shop. If not I would check out some local body shops, get prices and go from there. Back in the day I had a Escort RS2000 and it needed a rusty wheel arch doing and a door ding repaired. Ford wanted £1500. Others all around a grand. Was told about a classic car workshop. They cut away arch , put new part in , sorted door ding , replaced spoiler that had a crack and machine polished it (this was the 90s) for £600. It was perfect. So please shop around.

As above. Go to some local body shops and get a quote. if you get a quote considerably cheaper than others, stay away as they'll probably do half a job and it'll look crap.

post a picture up and maybe someone on here will be in the business and give a rough price

A 'dented' plastic bumper can be popped back into its original form if you catch it quickly enough...with an infra red heat lamp or similar. Call at a body shop asap...that thing alone may save you having to replace (and paint) the whole bumper. While they're at it, they may well have a quick or simple fix for the clip as well.

It’s torn so it needs fully replacing

Found this on eBay guy has 94% rating on 15k+ transactions. Body shop you are probably looking at around £500 (everything not just cost of bumper)

Isn't this what insurance is for ? From experience, often trying to do it on the cheap cutting corners ends up with either a poor finished product or paying twice. Look at what your insurance costs now (have you got full NCD?) then look at what you'd pay extra after a claim versus what you'll fork out to get it done on the quiet....then also think about IF someone does a thorough inspection at handover time and deducts £### when stuff doesn't add up.
This isn't some £1000 shit car, it's a £20k car
