Catalytic Converter Theft

Post by Chop » Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:53 pm

Hi all.

Have any members been unfortunate enough to experience the theft of their (petrol) catalytic converter? I understand that the problem is quite rife lately; especially with SUVs and hybrids.

I am not sure how easy it is to steel one from an Ateca, but they do have quite a high ground clearance.

Many regards.

As you say it is Hybrids , esp Prius, are being targeted. The logic being hybrid engines see less use some more precious metals remain. Also after first theft car are sometimes re targeted to take the new one. Here in Essex I have yet to hear of an Ateca theft.

It is more common on diesel vehicles as it's the DPF that gets stolen because they are upwards of 600 to replace.

You can get anti theft devices but you'd have to check if they fit your vehicle if you are concerned.
