Seat Ateca battery flat can't open bonnet

Post by Muise » Tue May 12, 2020 12:14 pm

Hi

My Ateca battery is flat. The lever to open the bonnet is in the passenger footwell, but it can only be opened if the passenger door is open. The passenger door is locked and can't be unlocked when the battery is flat (as it appears to only be unlockable using the central locking which won't function when the battery is flat). I can unlock the driver door using the manual key, but I can't unlock the passenger door.

Can anyone help me access my battery so I can charge it?

Thanks

You should be able to open the door from the inside.

Nope, you can't open it from the inside - it is locked and there is no manual unlock button. I called Seat and they sent the AA out - the AA guy couldn't believe how stupid the design is. He plugged something into the OBD port which gave it just enough power for the central locking to function - and it unlocked. All sorted thanks to the AA. Stupid design by Seat though.

That’s a quandary alright and I’m glad the AA sorted it for you.

I suppose on LHD car (the majority of the car’s market) the bonnet lever is on the drivers side which would work with the manual key.

Yes, it’s on the drivers side. Why cannot you clamber across to the passenger seat and open the bonnet?

The Bonnet leaver doesn’t pull all the way with the door closed.

Glad you got sorted Muise.
Maybe that why the lever is back on the right hand side on the Tarraco.
Out of all the Seats I’ve had the Arona & Ateca are the only ones with the lever on the left side.

Illuminating thread. To be honest, I always thought the keyhole was on the passenger door - and it would make sense if they'd done that.

Agreed, stupid design but it's been stupid throughout VAG of vehicles for many years.

Simple solution tho, the lever can be bent passed the door. Not ideal but it works.
