Always plays first track on USB/SD card

Hi,

This week, I took delivery my new Ateca and have put around 450 miles on it. For anyone interested, I had an average of 28mpg whilst driving in eco mode through a mixed route with a single passenger and no luggage.

It's a pleasure to drive, smooth, quiet, comfortable and love the seats, very happy with my choice even though the mpg is going to hurt a little more than I expected. Oh and a tip! make sure you check for the sat nav SD card before leaving the showroom, I did based on suggestions from this forum and it was missing so I was glad I asked - thanks for those who suggested it.

My only real gripe at the moment is kind of a big one. Every time I lock the car, it looses my place on the media and plays the first track again when I restart the engine. This has 2 frustrations, I am already sick of hearing the first track alphabetically on my usb/sd and if I am listening to a playlist or more importantly an audiobook, I lose my place and have to start again every time I make a stop on a long journey.

I have read through the manual, looked through some forums, asked SEAT customer service and my dealer and the only answer I got was from SEAT who said "it doesn't have an internal memory so cant remember your last song". This is obviously rubbish because the media player remembers my settings etc. The rest said they had not been asked the question before and don't know the answer.

I have tried reformatting the usb drive and tried an SD card. currently I am using FAT32. I have tried various methods of re-organising my files to see if that helped but so far nothing has.

Does this affliction affect everyone else and have you found a way around it or does this just sound like an issue with mine?

Thanks.

cant help you on that.
But from my experience on these car media matters... is... dont use them...
use the phone and connet via bluetooth... A phone is superior to any car media-device I have seen.

How strange, I dropped another album on the SD card today and after turning back on it still played the last track, this is the SD2 slot in the glovebox.

Not sure about the USB slots in the centre console, thought they were for phone integration, haven't tried a USB stick in there.

Try the SD2 slot in the glovebox.

All the best

The manual says it is "normally" in SD2. I checked mine and it's in SD1 like yours. Seems like it can go in either, but it should behave the same way in both.

I think it loses the position/track when it's completely shut down. That happens with delay, when you turn the ignition off. If you see the SEAT logo on the screen when turning ignition back on, it's likely that the media unit has lost all volatile information. If you don't see the logo, there's a chance it will remember the last track.

I have now tried using SD cards and USB - same results on all

Tet70 - I would agree with you, I see the SEAT logo every time I start my car after maybe 15 minutes - that is when it looses it's position. If I return to the vehicle within 5 minutes it sometimes keeps the track.

I could use my phone but I shouldn't be forced to do so. I have spoken with a different SEAT dealer tech and he said it should not be losing it's position but couldn't suggest a fix short of booking it in for investigation.

Mixed messages and no direct answer from the dealers/SEAT. if it is a problem on my vehicle then so be it, I will get it booked in but if it is the way the head unit handles external drives then I would have thought more people would have reported it.

Thanks for responses - appreciate your comments.

Had this issue myself, traced it back having a large amount of music on my usb stick, and then trying to shuffle all tracks it seems to confuse the system and then go to the default first track  i have found the shuffle works if i reduce the amount of memory used on the usb/card it works fine, loading the last track played, i would suggest you try that first and see how it goes, just for the record my first usb had 18gb of memory used i reduced it down to 8gb and it stopped the issue ??, the other option i have found is turn off the shuffle and it will play the last track you were playing even with the big usb
Hope this helps :D

I had a same issue and couldn't work it out until my SD card got corrupted and I had to reformat it. I used NTFS file format instead of exFat I had before and suddenly it remembers last played song and It doesn't start from the beginning. Can't think of any other reason why it's working now. SD card is the same 32GB Sandisk the only change was a different file system. Hope this helps.

Thanks will give it a try, had no luck with using a smaller card and only 3 albums, it still defaulted to the first song every time. Currently using fat32, have tried exfat and same results with both, will reformat ntfs and give it another go in the morning.

Thanks for the tips.

When a track was playing, I just navigated back (via the buttons at the top of the screen) though artist > albums > songs (or tracks). Then hit the shuffle button - and "hey presto" different every time.

If you go all the way back to the SD card setting, you've gone one too far. Go back one and you're in business.
Hope it helps...
