SEAT Ateca Cam Belts - £1,150.00 to Replace??

On my virtual list of things that are really important to worry about right now, oddly, this doesn't seem to appear  . Get on and enjoy the car and jasbo11, sell the car in 4 years and 9 months time and your worries go away :D . At least you'll have some reassurance of knowing that several other owners will be reaching the 5 year check before you and, if this forum is still alive, you'll have plenty of feedback at the time.

Frivolity aside, the question being asked should be, what happens if the belt snaps before the five years are up? Simply replacing would, at this point, appear unlikely, however, if it snaps early someone could end up with a £5,000 bill. What we need to know is, in the absence of a specific reference to this part being covered by warranty, do VW/SEAT see this item as a consumable in the same way they do clutch plates and certain parts of the brakes? Clutches give manufacturers a reason, if somewhat unfair, for arguing it was the drivers fault. What would happen if it was a car with a conventional belt that snapped during the 3 years? My Audi was time (4 years) and mileage (?) and I replaced it twice :( .

I agree it should. Hopefully none of us will have to find out for definite.

Thanks Etchings. That's quite some warranty because by 10 years many manufacturers, if they even offered any warranty, would want a considerable contribution from the owner for time and use. Would you get a brand new engine after what could easily be more than 100,000 miles, and would you get anything if you weren't the original owner who hadn't used a main dealer? This sounds like a mine field the longer it goes on.
